Is it safe to pay for Dental insurance annually on your own instead of getting it through your job?

Posted on | January 23, 2010 |

I have a job but they are not offering a good dental plan so I though I could go out on my own to get my own dental insurance, I am just a little skeptical of insurance companies what should I look for and is this even a good idea to pay on my own.

healthquotes.awardspace.info - my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.

you can always get dental insurance, or any insurance for that matter, on your own. It is no more or less "safe" than getting it thru your employer. What I would suggest is signing on with your employer’s plan and then getting additional insurance to cover what isn’t covered by your work plan, it would be much less expensive that way too. Just find and talk to an insurance agent that deals in health type plans, your dentist should be able to refer you to one.

Ask your dentist; he will know about dental plans. He also knows your dental history and whether you need exceptional coverage - like I did - or basic coverage.

It is rare to impossible to buy dental insurance on your own that will benefit you. Go with your office policy if the cost is equal to the cost of having your teeth cleaned twice a year including x rays. Forget the private insurance(unless is it is state welfare type insurance). When you drive downtown or along the highways look at all the large new pretty insurance buildings you see. You are paying for them -they are not giving out anything.

If the cost is similar and you want the coverage, I would say go with private insurance as it is not necessary for you to keep your job in order to keep the coverage and would avoid you having pre-existing waiting periods if you changed job or needed to get alternative coverage between jobs. I personally in Tennessee basically only sell Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee’s coverage, its 26.50 a month and covers basically everything and has a great provider network. Check your regional Blue Cross Affiliate or Anthem Blue Cross, and compare that to your work offered plan, and see if it is going to save you enough in either case to be of value to you.
